What's In a Name?
So you’re *finally* starting your business!
Got your social media handles? ✔️ awesome.
Grabbed your domain name? ✔️ great.
Created your LLC/Corporation? ✔️ yay.
Registered your business? ✔️ good work.
Completed a trademark search for your brand/business name? If that’s a no, it’s ok! Better late than never.
Simply because you haven’t looked into/aren’t ready to/didn’t know you should file a trademark application to protect your the name or logo for you business/brand/book/project/etc... doesn’t mean you can ignore this crucial step! And FYI, a quick Google search for any businesses using the same name as yours isn’t going to cut it.
There are two really important things a trademark attorney can do for you:
1. Completes a proper search for your business name to make sure no one else has a registered trademark/service mark with the same name as your business. If one already exists, that means the owner of that mark could come after you for infringement - which could also result in costly rebranding.
2. Files a trademark application to protect your business/brand as long as it is eligible for protection.
